Russia and Algeria strengthen strategic partnership

Within the framework of his working visit to Algeria, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev held talks with the President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmajid Tebboun and took part in the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Algerian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.  
During his meeting with the Head of State, Dmitry Patrushev conveyed best wishes from Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the strategic nature of relations between the two countries. “We highly value the strategic nature of our countries’ relations. This is evidenced, among other things, by the closeness of our positions on most points of the international and regional agenda. And we are determined to maintain close coordination between our countries,” he stated.
During the meeting they discussed prospects for cooperation in such areas as finance, banking, industry, energy and agriculture.  
On January 30, under the chairmanship of Dmitry Patrushev and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries of Algeria Youcef Cherfa, the 12th meeting of the Joint Commission was held. During the talks, the parties noted the effectiveness of the dialogue, emphasizing the importance of joint work in the fields of energy, agriculture, industry, transport and pharmaceuticals.  
Dmitry Patrushev noted that Algeria oremains one of the Russia's top trading partners in Africa. A bilateral trade reached $1.7 billion in the first ten months of last year alone, more than $850 million of which was exported Russian agricultural products. In the future, it is planned to expand supplies of halal products and Russian animal vaccines.  
The possibilities of cooperation in oil and gas and mineral development were also discussed. “By combining our expertise and resources, we can produce high-quality goods. Our joint efforts will further strengthen cooperation and enhance trade and economic ties,” Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.  
Special attention was paid to the issues of educational exchange. This academic year alone, nearly 2,000 Algerian students are enrolled in Russian universities, with the number of scholarships steadily increasing. This will be a positive step towards fostering the exchange of skilled professionals.  
It is worth noting that Algeria is a permanent participant of the International Economic Forum “Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum”. In 2023, Algerian chefs became the winners of the tournament among international teams of chefs from 15 countries. The Algerian participants impressed the jury by presenting traditional dishes such as chakhchoukha and soup friq with halal ingredients, winning second place in the overall standings and sharing this victory with the teams from Azerbaijan and Russia. 
At KazanForum 2024, the Algerian delegation took part in one of the key discussions in the session “Public audit as a tool of trust and transparency of authorities” organized by the Court of Accounts. During the meeting, which was also attended by the President of the Algerian Court of Audit, Abdelkader Benmarouf, they discussed public administration. 
The Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Algerian Commission has been active since 2013, and during this time its activities have proved its importance in strengthening the partnership between the two states.
