Russia can adopt the experience of Islamic countries in improving demography

The importance of women's reproductive health was discussed at the press conference "Maternal and Child Health", which was held on May 19 as part of the XIV International Forum "Russia - the Islamic World: KazanForum".

Ekaterina Yarotskaya, Head of the Department of International Cooperation at the V.I. Kulakov NMIC of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, noted that in the countries of the Islamic world there are features related to cultural values, religious traditions that make both a positive and an "alarming" contribution to the demographic situation. The positive ones include early marriages, large families. But there are also some risks to women's reproductive health during pregnancy, breastfeeding and raising young children.

"Having a family with a large number of children is our goal, the goal of the Russian Federation to solve demographic problems, so here we have something to learn from countries with other, higher indicators," Yarotskaya said.

Elizaveta Khamatkhanova, Head of the Department of Additional Professional Education and Simulation Technologies in Medicine at the V.I. Kulakov NMIC AGP, noted that the Russian Federation needs to improve the demographic situation. Since the number of the population of reproductive age is decreasing, accordingly, in Russia there is an insufficient proportion of young people in the country's population.

"Of course, there is a lot to learn from neighboring countries, for example, Kyrgyzstan, where the younger generation is more than 40%, and the growth is very high, respectively, and childbearing is at a high level, and a family with a large number of children. This is a value for the Russian Federation," Khamatkhanova said.
