During the round table, the participants discussed the status and prospects for the development of cooperation between Russia and Indonesia. Indonesia is a country with the biggest economy among the ASEAN member states and the largest Muslim population around the world – 270 million people. Amid the worldwide transformation of global trade chains, food security, banking cooperation and tourism are among the most important areas of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Indonesia. In this context, halal compliance becomes a necessary prerequisite for trade in goods and services with Indonesian partners.

Berlian Helmi noted that Russia is the biggest attractive Eurasian market for Indonesia along with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

The growth of purchasing power of the population makes Indonesia one of the promising trade destinations in Southeast Asia. At present, Russia exports large volumes of turkey meat to Indonesia. Cooperation in the sphere of tourism is actively developing between the countries. Indonesia is an attractive destination for Russian tourists. Russia adopts the Indonesia’s best practices in developing halal-compliant resorts.

The key issues that need to be solved in Indonesia are water purification and food supplies. The development of hi-tech infrastructure is a promising area of cooperation between our countries.
