Autonomous Driving Technology penetrates deeply into our daily lives. Until recently, hardly anybody imagined that we would see unmanned vehicles on the roads and swarms of unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky.

Now the issue of further development and testing of unmanned technology is acute. One of the main problems is how to ensure safety and coordination with other road users. Today, experiments with unmanned vehicles are leaving closed test sites and are being carried out on public roads. It requires the development of intelligent road infrastructure, as well as addressing the issues of legal regulation for unmanned vehicles.

Rifkat Minnikhanov, Chairman of the Board of the Association for the Promotion of Digital Development, Director of Road Safety SBI spoke about the issues of unmanned technology development in Russia, including the lack of a legislative framework, insufficient road infrastructure and the necessity in data transmission network establishment, as well as coordination increase between universities and manufacturers.

Changju Li, PhD, representative of the UNESCAP Transport Division noted that China is implementing a Smart City system. The use of new technologies in transport can reduce climate pollution. At this stage, it is decided how to use automatic transport systems. It is necessary to define the rules for the artificial intelligence application for the development of unmanned vehicles.

Jisheng Zhang, Director of the Autonomous Driving Technology Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Transportation of the People's Republic of China, spoke about the integration of autonomous vehicles and smart highways in China. Now the system of non-stop automatic payment is widespread in the country. Sensors operating in the millimeter range are installed in toll roads at the points of collection. Scientific research is being carried out on the introduction of unmanned driving. China has an independent driving system for urban transport within a smart city.

Farid Muhamad, Director of the Institute of Automotive Systems and Engineering, the Malaysian University of Technology, presented the history of the unmanned vehicles development in Malaysia. The country is actively developing test systems for unmanned vehicles. The special committee under the government auspices develops new standards and supports the development of new systems. The Ministry of Transportation has proposed guidelines with rules for testing such systems. There is a strong partnership between universities and industry in autonomous vehicle research. At this stage, the development of an unmanned public electric bus is underway.

Nikolai Toropov, Deputy Head of the Intelligent Transport Systems Department of ROSDORNII FAA, said that a multifunctional intelligent road infrastructure is being developed in Russia; and today it serves as a technical basis for the development of Intelligent Transport System services. A multifunctional road infrastructure is also being established. The speaker believes that test sites and pilot zones are the most universal means which enable to evaluate the technology. Two pilot zones are being established, one - on the M-12 highway and the other - in the Alabuga SEZ (Special Economic Zone). The speaker shared a list of scientific research studies which are expected for development in the near future.

Sultan Zhankaziev, President of the Association of Transport Engineers, noted that the dynamic road traffic map is a core for any unmanned vehicle. Alabuga SEZ is a pilot zone for their testing. Already this year, testing will begin on the test track on the Alabuga SEZ territory. At the moment, regulatory documents related to the operation of unmanned vehicles are being developed.

Harald Gruebel, Executive Director of KAMA AO, ATOM brand, presented a new battery car called ATOM, 2021 year of manufacture. The speaker explained the difference between driving of the autonomous car (with a driver) and unmanned (a car that does not even have a steering wheel), showing the advantages and disadvantages of both types of vehicles.
