Финал второго Международного хоккейного турнира исламских стран
Location: Kazan, ‘Tatneft Arena’
Time: May 15, 18:30
The second ice hockey tournament of Islamic countries – the Tatneft ADIHIC Cup – has ended. The Tatarstan team won in the final match of Group A, confirming its status as the tournament host.
The awarding ceremony was attended by: Managing Director of the Russian Hockey League (VHL), Deputy Director of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Alexander Kiknadze, Executive Director of the Association for Ice Hockey Development in Islamic Countries Damir Mukhametshin, triple World Champion and winner of five Gagarin Cups Danis Zaripov, and Executive Director of the Ak Bars hockey club Mansur Usmanov.
During five days, eight men’s teams from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Pakistan, Turkey and the Republic of Tatarstan, fought for the champion’s title. A total of 20 matches were played on the ice of ‘Tatneft Arena.’
Tatarstan took the first place in Group A, winning all three matches. In the semifinals, it defeated the united team of Turkey, Mongolia and Lebanon (the MIX TEAM); in the final match, it defeated Kazakhstan with a 3-2 victory. Kyrgyzstan and the MIX TEAM won bronze medals.
“This is no match for the level of the KHL or even the Supreme Hockey League, but the boys do their best, they want to show their best side. The attacks are not bad, the speeds are not bad, but the effectiveness is lacking. I see by the way some boys move that they graduated from a hockey school, their skills are not bad, but there is still room to grow. I am certain that the opening of the Islamic League will give the boys a chance to prove themselves. Ice hockey does not stand still in all countries, it develops, not to mention that Kazakhstan is a hockey country, and ice hockey is at a rather high level there; if we go down the memory lane, in the past, we had a lot of graduates who became the best in world hockey,” Danis Zaripov said, sharing his impressions from the final match.
Azerbaijan headed Group B, scoring two victories and defeating Bahrain with a strong 7-3 victory in the final match. Iran came second in Group B, defeating the MIX TEAM 11-5.
The tournament emphasized the growing interest in ice hockey among Islamic countries and contributed to the strengthening of sport and cultural ties between the participants.
“Sport unites. And this tournament and final match proves it. In these five days we witnessed how friendship was created. And friendship is what makes us richer. Therefore, every one of us has become much richer in these five days than they were before the tournament. There were no losers today. I thank the teams, you showed colorful, beautiful, passionate hockey,” Alexander Kiknadze said, congratulating the teams.
