XXII Altyn Minbar Kazan International Film Festival to Take Place in the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World
This year, Kazan has been designated the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World, and the XXII Altyn Minbar Kazan International Film Festival will be one of the flagship events of the programme. From 4 to 8 September, the capital of Tatarstan will once again bring together filmmakers from the Islamic world and beyond, continuing a tradition of cultural dialogue strengthened through international initiatives, including the Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum.
The Festival has received a record 1,030 submissions from 66 countries. A total of 146 films have been selected for the competition and non-competition programmes, including productions from the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Films from the Islamic world will feature prominently, including Iranian director Majid Majidi's "Muhammad: The Messenger of God", "Imam Abu Isa Muhammad al-Tirmidhi", and several other landmark productions.
One of the Festival's highlights will be the premiere of the Russian-Uzbek co-production "Mögallim" ("The Teacher"), dedicated to the outstanding Tatar theologian Shigabutdin Marjani. The film was produced with the participation of filmmakers from Tatarstan and Uzbekistan as part of the state programme "Tirik Tarikh" ("Living History"). Approximately RUB 80 million was allocated for the project.
Alongside film screenings, the Festival will feature an extensive business and educational programme, including an international pitching session, educational events on film pedagogy, and a film laboratory in Bolgar.
The Altyn Minbar Film Festival continues to serve not only as a platform for international premieres but also as an important instrument for strengthening cultural cooperation, further reinforcing Kazan's role as one of Russia's leading centres for engagement with the countries of the Islamic world.
