Which films were included in the Russia - Islamic World program of the Kazan Film Festival

This year, the non-competition section "Russia - Islamic World" included works by directors from Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and India. The program also included a picture from Tatarstan " Җылак " (Crybaby) directed by Almaz Nurgaliyev. According to Nina Kochelyaeva, Chairman of the KMFMC Selection Committee, expert of the Scientific and Educational Center "Civil Society and Social Communications" of IGSU RANHIGS, winner of the Prize of the Russian Government in the field of education (2021), this year's program "Russia - Islamic World" is built around the cinematography of the countries that are members of the Strategic Vision Group.

"First of all, the formation of the program is based on the geographical principle. Only the film "Maryam" from India is somewhat at odds with it, but the members of the selection committee decided to include the film in the program because of the Muslim issues raised. We are also guided by the principles of the Muslim Film Festival and take into account the necessary qualities of the films accepted at the Kazan Film Forum. As in previous years, the program includes 10 films. The prize fund will amount to 300 thousand rubles," Kochelyayeva noted.

All the films presented in the program touch upon human relationships, ethics, survival and communication of people in extreme situations. In turn, Timur Shaykhullin, a member of the selection committee, head of the Department of Philology and Country Studies of the Russian Islamic Institute, pointed out that when selecting films, the selection committee was guided by the principles of humanism and humanity, trying to distance itself from films with scenes of cruelty and violence. This is due to the fact that the concept of the festival is based on the dialog of cultures. "Traditionally, the films included in the program "Russia - Islamic World" will allow the viewer to plunge into the world of mentality, traditions and customs of representatives of different nations and confessions, as well as to see the embodiment of Muslim spiritual values on the screen", - explained Shaykhullin. Recall that the XIX Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema will be held in the capital of Tatarstan from September 5 to 9 with the support of Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, as well as in partnership with the Strategic Vision Group "Russia - Islamic World". The Kazan festival is held under the motto "Through the dialog of cultures - to the culture of dialog".
