KazanForum is in the “Kazan – Cultural Capital of the Islamic World-2026” Event Programme

The XVII International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” was included in the programme of events for 2026, timed to the fact that Kazan will be the cultural capital of the Islamic world next year. This was announced by Irada Ayupova, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, on 17 February.
The event calendar is being designed at the moment, but it is already known that it will include, along with KazanForum, both traditional events – the Day of the Official Adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria, Film Festival “Altyn minbar”, and others, and those that the Republic will host for the first time. Such as, for example, the Conference of the Ministers of Culture in Countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This year, the capital city of Tatarstan will be hosting a Congress of the Ministers of Culture in Countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for the first time within the framework of KazanForum.
“The plan of events is still underway. We will establish a dedicated organising committee. Our task is to ensure that these events are catered to a wide audience,” Irada Ayupova said.
Kamil Hazrat Samigullin, Mufti of Tatarstan, shared that a handwritten Quran may be presented in Kazan in 2026. He also noted that the Islamic holy book is being set down by hand in the CIS countries for the first time.
“It is a tradition; it exists in Saudi Arabia, in Egypt, in Turkey: the Quran is written by hand, then republished and reproduced. The Kazan mushaf is unique in that it is set down based on 11 sources. It will become a reference and further used as a sample for other mushafs. This means a lot. We finished writing last week. Now we need to prepare the book for printing, check every letter,” Samigullin stated.
Kazan was chosen to become the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2026 on 13 February at the 13th Conference of the Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World held in Saudi Arabia.
