Russia Strengthens Partnership with the UAE in Healthcare
11 MarchDuring the talks, the Russian Minister of Healthcare touched upon the promising areas of collaboration that Russia and the UAE are interested in developing. Among them are prevention and treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases, production of medicines, introduction of new medical technologies, and medical tourism.
During the Meeting, Mikhail Murashko noted that co-operation can be mutually beneficial and effective. Most notably, he reminded his colleagues of the successful implementation of measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic, when the UAE actively promoted the Russian vaccine ‘‘Sputnik V’’. The Head of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation also spoke about the development of innovative medicines, the introduction of new treatment and diagnostic methods, medical technologies, and unique digital solutions, which together make it possible to increase the life expectancy amongst the population.
In response, Dr Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, briefed Mikhail Murashko on the organisation of the UAE healthcare system. According to her, Abu Dhabi is considering the prospects of deepening co-operation with Russia in the field of healthcare as the priorities of both countries coincide in many respects. Thus, in her speech, Dr Noura Al Ghaithi noted that the Emirati side is interested in promoting co-operation in medical tourism, in localising the production of medicines, as well as in engagement with major Russian pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The International Economic Forum ‘‘Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum’’ is one of the leading platforms for discussing issues of interstate co-operation in various areas, including healthcare. The Event will be held from 13 to 18 May 2025 at the ‘‘Kazan Expo’’ IEC.
