The impact of the circular economy and “green” projects on the development of Russia and the OIC countries was discussed at a press conference as part of the XVI International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025”. The discussion was attended by Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development Yousef Hassan Halavi, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin, and Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Akhmatov.
PAO “Tatneft” has shown an excellent example of a cyclical “green” economy. They have everything involved, even from the smoke they extract valuable metals that go into production. Everything we call household and industrial waste can become raw materials. The first task that our Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry deals with is to take seriously what remains of production and household waste. We are glad that there are many entrepreneurs and business representatives at KazanForum. We must bring the regions to direct relations with the regions of other countries – first of all, this applies to small and medium-sized companies that need help in establishing contacts,” claimed Sergey Katyrin.
On the sidelines of the forum, it was also announced the creation of a consortium aimed at the “green” economy and joint overcoming of global challenges between oil companies of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Yousef Hassan Halawi called KazanForum an excellent platform for discussing topics of interest to different countries. “This is a huge opportunity to build bridges between different countries and realise new opportunities. We have already held meetings with several companies of Tatarstan in the field of Halal. We expect the signing of agreements to improve trade between the countries,” said Yousef Hassan Halawi.
In total, 20 foreign chambers of commerce are represented at KazanForum, another 36 are from the regions of Russia, and more than 30 chambers are presented in online format.
“The circular economy is most often associated with large enterprises, however, small and medium-sized organisations are also important to us. It is significant for them to have an understanding of cyclic processing, to engage in exchange, smart design. KazanForum is valued for its contacts and sessions that help the professional community to interact better. Internal contacts are sometimes more valuable than external ones,” Marat Akhmatov stressed.

The International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum”, which was granted federal status in 2022 by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, is being held for the 16th time on 13-18 May 2025. The Programme includes 200 events such as a Congress of Ministers of Transport within the Islamic countries; a Congress of Ministers of Culture within the Islamic countries; a Congress of Prosecutors General within the Islamic countries; a Congress of Auditors within the Islamic countries; the world’s largest conference on Islamic finance; conferences on the halal industry; a forum of Chambers of Commerce and Industry within the Islamic countries; as well as international exhibitions on economy, trade, and real estate held over 40 thousand sq. m. Representatives from 103 countries registered to participate in 2025. In 2024, the Event gathered more than 20 thousand participants from 87 countries, 87 constituent subjects of the Russian Federation, along with more than 40 diplomatic missions.
