250 Certified Organics Producers Operate in Russia

There are about 250 agricultural producers and processors having organic certificates in the Russian Federation today. This was reported by Vyacheslav Fedyunin, Director of the Organic Producers Support Fund, at the XVI International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum”. He noted that this is a very small number given that there are more than 40 thousand producers of agricultural products across the country in general.

Organic standards primarily imply the production of goods without the use of chemical means –– pesticides and herbicides –– to protect the plants, Fedyunin said. Avoiding substances that are harmful to the environment helps to preserve the overall ecosystem.

“Organic and Halal standards can significantly improve the quality of life of people and, first of all, Russian citizens, because the Russian Federation has a very important and crucial resource –– land –– that can be easily involved in organic turnover and used to create high quality products,” Fedyunin emphasised, noting that both organic and Halal standards are aimed at preserving health and traditions which stand out in public consumption most.

Fedyunin stated that the organics market is now growing in the US, Europe, and China. At the same time, according to him, such prospects exist in Russia as well.

“We can pick up the full bundle of organic products in the Russian Federation today. Tatarstan contributes to this as well. However, it is necessary to make the said bundle with organic products available: not only to the end consumer through retail chains, but also in the format of social nutrition and catering –– for the children, because it is in childhood that the health of the nation is laid down,” stressed the Director of the Organic Producers Support Fund.
