The XII International Economic Summit "Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021" was held in Kazan on July 28-30. The event was held at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Center. The leitmotif of KazanSummit 2021 was conscious consumption. More than 90 business sessions were held, more than 20 agreements were signed between representatives of countries, regions, and businesses within the summit. The key topics of the business program were: partnership finance, Halal industry, youth diplomacy, medicine, sports, creative industries, export development, entrepreneurship and investment.

"I would like to say how thankful I am to the large team of Tatarstan for event management of a major event, for the fact that it is being held for the 12th time. Despite the special aspects of the situation, we have the opportunity to meet face-to-face, look into each other's eyes and talk [about] how the world is changing, how important Russia's openness is, how important integration into new opportunities is, and talk about cooperation with the Islamic world. Halal is a sector of the economy that has a huge potential both domestically and out of the country, these are issues of investment, fashion, culture. I welcome everyone to the opening of the Summit "Russia - the Islamic World!" - the Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov addressed the participants and visitors of the Summit.

Russia Halal Expo-2021 was held at the Kazan Expo, where 113 exhibitors were represented, including the stands of Indonesia, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Export Support Center of the Ulyanovsk Region, Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of the Russian Federation, the Halal Standard Committee of the Muslim Spiritual Board of the Republic of Tatarstan, ICCIA, SICPA, the stand of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), the stand of the International Association of Islamic Business, PJSC AK BARS Bank, Tatneft, PWC, JSC Russian Agricultural Bank, T-Family (Tubatay), Kunak coffee, IT lab, the Halal Digital Ecosystem, the Huzur Publishing House, International Center for Standardization And Certification "Halal" under the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of the Russian Federation and many others.

For the first time at the KazanSummit a fashion designer, a member of the French Federation of Fashion and of Ready-to-Wear Couturiers and Fashion Designers, People's Artist of Russia Valentin Yudashkin presented his collection as part of the Modest Fashion Day, which was held in Kazan at the XII International Economic Summit "Russia-the Islamic World: KazanSummit" with the support of the National Chamber of Fashion. The Modest Fashion Day was opened with a business program: 16 Russian and foreign experts discussed the development and prospects of "modest fashion", and support measures for talented designers. The Modest fashion show took place on the evening of July 28: 9 talented modest fashion designers released their collections, reflecting the new aesthetics of modesty and modernity: Igor Gulyaev, designer of the Fashion House IGORGULYAEV, as well as Guzelem, ZUHAT, Su.Su, Eva Graffova, Alsu Gilmi, SAHARA, Measure.

In 2021, for the first time, an International Machine-Building Cluster Forum was held on the sidelines of the Summit. The forum was attended by leading experts from various regions of the Russian Federation and foreign countries, such as Belgium, Germany, Italy, China, the USA, France, Japan, Switzerland and many others. Traditionally, among the participants: heads of the federal subjects of Russia and municipalities, ministries and departments, industrial enterprises, engineering centers, universities. 24 companies took part in the forum in 2021.

Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, called on Islamic companies to invest in Russian digital and "green" projects during the Plenary session of the VII Machine-Building Cluster Forum: "Partnership of Russian enterprises with Islamic countries and big challenges for the industry in the era of the digital pandemic".

A session of Sberbank was held in the Sberbank business communication zone. This year, the central topic of the conversation was ESG-the transformation of regions. ESG is a certain set of principles and approaches in the sphere of social, environmental and managerial responsibility, which, along with the usual economic parameters, should be taken into account in the planning process and activities of any company. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan noted that Tatarstan is intended to working very closely with Sberbank, as one of the trailblazers, including the sphere of ESG.

The Russian Islamic Institute and Ak Bars Bank held an interactive Business game "Buy" at the summit. The business game is a unique interactive model, the development and study of which will allow participants to gain practical experience in the field of business, investment and improve financial literacy following Islamic values.

The most important event of the second day of KazanSummit was the Plenary session of the XII International Economic Summit "Russia - the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021" Conscious Consumption and Creation following the results of the summit. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Director General of the Russian Export Center Veronika Nikishina, ICCIA Secretary General Yousef Hasan Khalawi,  the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Muş, the United Arab Emirates' Minister of State for Foreign Trade and Minister H.E Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Investments of the Kyrgyz Republic Almambet Shykmamatov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Planning for Sectoral and Regional Development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia H.E Khalil Ibraheem AlWatban made a speech at the meeting. The participants were greeted by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar M.H. Hajjar , Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, Chairman of the World Halal Day UNWHD Mohammed Jinnah. The participants of the meeting discussed the level of consciousness in the actual world and the digital space, summarized the results of the summit and told about new projects.

Nadira Tudor, a news anchor with international experience, a correspondent and reporter for Times Radio, who previously worked at the BBC, became the moderator of the plenary session of the XII International economic summit "KAZANSUMMIT 2021".

"I would like to emphasize that our partners can fully count on the support and assistance of the Russian Federation in efforts to overcome regional crises and acute social problems, in confronting all manifestations of terrorism and extremism", - said the President of Russia in his welcoming address.

 

Rustam Minnikhanov noted that KazanSummit contributes to strengthening Russia's economic and humanitarian ties with the Muslim world: "The Summit has proved itself as a successful business platform for establishing new contacts and presenting economic opportunities and investment potential of our country. KazanSummit is an effective economic tool of the Group of Strategic Vision Russia – Islamic World, which I head up on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation. "KazanSummit" allows demonstrating to the Islamic world the wide opportunities of Russian regions with a Muslim population. Among them are such projects as the Halal industry exhibition Russia Halal Expo, the Virtual Mosque project.

"We welcome the approaches on which the summit's work is traditionally based. I mean its focus on building a system of international economic relations purged from unfair competition, political, sanctions and other types of pressure", - chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko addressed the Summit participants via videoconference. She highlighted that KazanSummit is an authoritative platform where many important issues of strengthening trade, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural ties between Russia and the OIC countries are discussed.

"Turkey is making great efforts to standardize high-quality products, especially Halal goods. We believe that the efforts that Tatarstan is making, including the KazanSummit forum, are certainly worth a special mention and gratitude", - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

During the plenary session, it was announced that next year, within the framework of KazanSummit-2022, the World Halal Day will be held.

The final event of the business part of the forum was the signing of agreements with the Investment Development Agency of the Republic of Tatarstan. Among the signed agreements is a Memorandum of understanding between Tatarstan Investment Development Agency and Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Agriculture, a Memorandum of understanding between organizing committee of international economic summit “Russia – Islamic world: Kazansummit” and organizing committee of World Halal Summit, a Cooperation agreement between the Annual Investment Meeting and the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency.

More than 4,500 people registered as participants of the Summit. During the Summit, a Forum of Young Leaders of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Russia and the CIS countries was held.            More than 100 representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Industry confirmed their participation in the Forum. Among them are the presidents of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, deputies, department directors and young specialists. The Forum was attended by representatives of 37 CCI of Russia from 38 regions, 9 representatives of foreign CCI.

Within the framework of the Forum, networking sessions, general sessions on topical areas, master classes on the areas of work of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, trainings, consulting sessions, consulting meetings with coaches and experts in various fields, excursions were held.

In addition to the cultural and business program: backstage meetings, bilateral negotiations, closed-door meetings, networking aimed at achieving business goals within the framework of the work during the Summit.

"Hospitable Kazan opens its doors for the 12th time for guests and participants of the International Economic Summit "Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021". This year, the summit was attended by more than 4,500 registered participants and delegates from 64 foreign countries. Within their participation, bilateral negotiations were held, more than 20 agreements were signed. The participants also served as speakers and spectators in 90 sessions and events, visited industrial enterprises, and more than 250 media representatives gave publicity to the activities of the entire event for three days. At the Kazan Expo site, foreign delegates and representatives of 41 regions of Russia had the opportunity to expand the circle of their partners and business contacts," Taliya Minullina shared the results of KazanSummit 2021.
