Tatarstan May Become a Part of Islamic Tourism in Russia
The Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia (SAMR) has prepared a draft concept for Islamic tourism named “Izge Sukmak” (“Sacred Path”). It is expected to develop over 20 itineraries across 34 regions of the country, including Tatarstan. The Head of the SAMR, Mufti of Moscow Albir Krganov, presented this initiative to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, TASS reports.

According to Krganov, Islamic tourism will become a “new phenomenon” for the country. At the same time, many regions of Russia boast “magnificent Muslim shrines and memorial sites”, including the Kul Sharif Mosque and Bolgar Settlement in Tatarstan, where the “Izge Bolgar Zhyeny” event is held annually. These itineraries could be of interest not only to local residents but also to Muslims visiting from abroad, which is especially relevant given the large tourist flow from Arab countries.

The Mufti of Moscow suggested that Dmitry Chernyshenko instruct the Ministry of Economic Development to study and support the initiative.
