Joint production of the film began in Uzbekistan at the end of last year. Filming in Tatarstan began in January, the majority of the footage shot at the “Tatar Avyly” ethnic village in Isakovo settlement of Zelenodolsk District. The filmmakers chose this location as the closest to the educator’s time. Interior shots took place at the Sharif Kamal Museum, according to the Altyn Minbar Film Festival press service.

The film tells the story of Shihabetdin Marjani, educator, scholar, and philosopher. The plot covers his childhood, education, and development as a scholar in Bukhara and Samarkand, key centers of Islamic science and culture in the 19th century.

The premiere screening of “Teacher” is planned for the Kazan International Film Festival “Altyn Minbar” this September. The Festival itself is a part of the “Kazan – Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” program.
