2026 KazanForum to Unveil First Handwritten Quran
The first in the CIS handwritten Quran will be printed in Tatarstan to commemorate the opening of the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum”. This was reported by the “Realnoe Vremya” newspaper, citing Rishat Khamidullin, head of the “Khuzur” publishing house.

Work on the holy scripture began back in January 2022. Following the traditions of Islamic countries, the publishing house prepared a handwritten calligraphic version of the text. The members of the committee drew on 11 scholarly sources and cross referenced the manuscript with the most knowledgeable Mushafs throughout the process.

Upon completion, the experts carried out a meticulous check of every letter and vowel marking to ensure the sacred text was reproduced as accurately as possible. The manuscript was finished and fully verified in early 2025.

The creation of the handwritten Quran served as one of the key events within the “Izge Bolgar zhyeny” programme, the Festival dedicated to the 1,100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria. This year’s programme of events includes a collective prayer on the grounds of the historic Khan’s Mosque in Bolgar; a folk crafts fair; lectures on Islam; and masterclasses in Tatar calligraphy and Arabic script.
