Development of Russia–Tajikistan Co-operation Discussed on the Sidelines of KazanForum
On 15 May 2026, a meeting of the co-chairs of the Russia–Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Co-operation took place in the Kazan Kremlin, within the framework of KazanForum. The talks were attended by Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia; Kokhir Rasulzoda, Prime Minister of Tajikistan; and Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais of Tatarstan.

Marat Khusnullin stressed that Russia has traditionally been one of Tajikistan's leading partners, ranking second in terms of bilateral trade. He noted that trade turnover had risen by 20% in January–April 2026, following growth of 25% the previous year.

Kokhir Rasulzoda observed that holding the meeting on the sidelines of the XVII International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum" underscored the strength of the alliance between Russia and Tajikistan. He emphasised that the Government of Tajikistan is monitoring the implementation of the decisions set out in the protocol of the previous intergovernmental commission meeting, which was held in Moscow in September last year.

"Our partnership is steadily evolving, transforming from strategic plans into tangible and successful joint achievements."

The meeting in the Kazan Kremlin confirmed the steady growth and deepening of economic co-operation between Russia and Tajikistan. The two sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue expanding their engagement, translating strategic plans into concrete shared accomplishments.
