Tatarstan has joined the ranks of Russia's leaders in the export of medical services: the Republic holds fourth place in the country, behind only Moscow, the Moscow Region, and St. Petersburg. Clinics operate well-developed international departments. This was announced by Almir Abashev, Minister of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan, at the XVII International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum".

Since 2019, over half a million foreign citizens from 166 countries worldwide have received medical care in Tatarstan. The total volume of services provided exceeded 1 billion roubles. The region's key advantage is the provision of medical care in accordance with halal standards, which includes special nutrition, prayer rooms, and the separate accommodation of patients of different genders. Medical staff also undergo relevant training.

Tatarstan's healthcare infrastructure encompasses more than 200 public clinics and over 2,000 private clinics. More than 18,000 doctors and 43,000 mid-level medical professionals work in the healthcare sector.

On the sidelines of the forum, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan concluded five agreements with leading clinics in Turkey. According to Almir Abashev, this will make it possible to develop medical technologies and strengthen professional ties between specialists.

"We are working within the framework of memoranda and agreements; five were concluded today. Leading clinics in Turkey have signed corresponding agreements with our flagship medical organisations. All of this greatly advances our technologies and our mutual understanding. Cross-border relations among medical professionals are extremely important at the current stage," noted Almir Abashev.

According to Evgenia Kotova, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, around 27 million medical tourists have visited Russia over the past six years. Of these, approximately 2 million were children from other countries. The Deputy Minister noted that the flow of foreign patients is growing: over the past three years, the annual increase has been 20%.
