650 Volunteers to Help Run KazanForum

A team of volunteers for the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” was finally assembled on 20 April. Out of the 1,223 applications received, 580 volunteers from Kazan and 70 volunteers from other regions of the Russian Federation were selected to participate in the Forum. From 10 May, these people will be deployed across all Forum venues, as well as at the arrival and departure points.

The volunteers will be divided into the usual categories: volunteers for the Forum’s official programme; attaché volunteers; and service volunteers. Foreign languages and business etiquette skills were one of the main selection criteria. A vast number of students have been recruited thanks to the long standing co operation with various universities, and list of languages has expanded from English, French and Arabic to include Turkish, Turkmen, Hindi, Farsi, and Pashto.

This year saw the geographical range of KazanForum volunteers being broadened as well. The volunteers from Russia constitute the largest group, numbering 609; followed by 12 volunteers from Turkmenistan; 9 from India; 8 from Kazakhstan; two each from Egypt and Uzbekistan; and one each from Belarus, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Sierra Leone, and Syria.

The volunteers will be trained in three stages. The first stage will consist of a general orientation session, during which the Forum makers will gain an overview of the Forum; the categories of participants and organisers; the guests of honour; the national and religious aspects of the Event; as well as learn about business etiquette and how to interact with representatives of OIC member states. Stage two will have the volunteers receive functional training, where they will go into extensive details in terms of their duties and tasks. The final stage will consist of on site training, aimed to endow the volunteers with knowledge, skills, and competencies regarding the Forum venues, space planning, operating procedures, site rules, safety regulations, and so on.

“We have built an international team of 650 volunteers from regions across Russia and friendly nations that truly embodies the intercultural dialogue lying at the heart of KazanForum. These young people, commanding eight foreign languages, are not just the assistants—they are efficiently cultural ambassadors. The whole notion of volunteering serves as an invaluable method of nurturing today’s youth. Through bearing a hand in organising an event of this calibre, young people develop not only professional skills, but also a sense of civic duty, responsibility, and patriotism, all the while gaining experience in effective intercultural interaction. Thanks to thorough preparation and multi stage training, the volunteers will be sure to extend the highest level of hospitality and professionalism in their work with representatives of the Islamic world. It is worth noting this way, we are also supporting the objectives of ‘Youth and Children’ national project,” Azat Kadyrov, Minister of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, shared.
