Ministry of Economic Development: In Recent Years, The Volume of Mutually Accumulated Investments Between Russia and The UAE Has Increased Tenfold
15 MayThis was stated by Pavel Kalmychek, Director of the Department for Bipartite Cooperation Development of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, during a session devoted to investment partnership in the development of industrial and trade co-operation between Russia and the UAE. The meeting was held within the framework of the meeting of the Russian-Emirati Business Council, on the side-lines of the XVI International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025”.
According to the Director of the Department, Russia is ready to increase exports of agricultural products and food products to the UAE, including halal ones – sunflower oil, poultry meat, lentils, barley and wheat, as well as supply lumber, ferrous, non-ferrous metals and products made of them.
“The mutual inflow of investments between our countries is steadily growing. In recent years, the volume of mutually accumulated investments has increased tenfold,” said Pavel Kalmychek. – The Emirates occupy the 3rd place among all investor countries in Russia. At the same time, the main share of Emirati investments falls on manufacturing, transport, logistics, trade and services.”
Pavel Kalmychek named production co-operation and localization of production among the most promising areas of trade and economic co-operation between the countries. A striking example of co-operation activities is the creation of the Eurasian commercial and industrial hub on the basis of the free economic zone “KEZAD”, the residents of which were more than 40 Russian companies. In the future, the countries plan to develop co-operation between the Russian and Emirati special economic zones, as well as provide support and assistance in entering the Russian market and localizing some Emirati companies in Russia.
“We observe a high demand of Emirati partners for high technologies from Russia. Several Russian developments in the field of information security, facial recognition, the creation of command and control centres, as well as taxi and voice assistant service applications have already been presented on the UAE market,” said Pavel Kalmychek. – We are ready to expand the areas of co-operation. Russian companies have world-class competencies in nuclear medicine, biotechnology, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. We are pleased to invite Emirati partners to work jointly in high-tech areas.”
Tourism is another promising area of co-operation. In 2024, Russian tourists made almost 2 million trips to the UAE. Russia, in turn, is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for Emirati tourists. Over the past year, the number of trips from the UAE to Russia has increased by more than 50%. This is facilitated by the current visa-free regime and direct flights.
