KazanForum 2026: Myanmar Ready to Cooperate with Tatarstan in Shipbuilding, Education, and Agriculture
At the XVII International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum", representatives of Myanmar expressed interest in developing co-operation with Tatarstan across several key areas.

Charlie Than, Minister of Industry and Development of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, showed interest in the shipbuilding company Ak Bars. Charlie Than noted that he had seen models of high-speed vessels and expressed hope for the possibility of joint work in the field of ship design and construction.

Furthermore, Myanmar expressed interest in co-operation with Innopolis University, considering the possibility of technology exchange and the training of its specialists at this educational institution. The prospect of Russia's participation in a project to restore an iron smelting plant in Myanmar was also discussed. As a result, a meeting with potential Russian partners took place on the sidelines of KazanForum 2026.

In recent years, Russia and Myanmar have strengthened their partnership across a wide range of areas. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Finance and Revenue of Myanmar, recalled the letters of intent signed in 2022 with a major industrial enterprise of the Republic.

The parties also discussed other promising areas of co-operation, including fertiliser production. The construction of a liquid fertiliser plant is commencing in Myanmar. During the meeting, the parties addressed issues relating to projects in the sphere of water supply, the production and supply of sunflower seeds, and the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, with an emphasis on technology transfer and training at leading universities of the Russian Federation.
