Russian President Vladimir Putin declared 2024 the Year of the Family in Russia. As part of the Women’s View track, the speakers delivered speeches on traditional family and spiritual values as well as self-realization of women in the socio-political, economic, and social spheres.

Yekaterina Lakhova, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Russia All-Russian public and state organization, highlighted the session’s keynote. “The President told us that the family and traditional family values are vital for the fate of Russia. We say that the family is the oldest social institution, which is based on the marriage of a man and a woman. The family connects them through economic, reproductive and educational activities. Therefore, we must talk about the family all the time and understand that this is the basis of our state. A stable and successful family translates into a stable and strong state,” she maintained.

Zilya Valeyeva, Chairwoman of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairwoman of the regional branch of the Women's Union of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan and Chairwoman of the Women of Tatarstan republican public organization, spoke about native language learning. “Let's talk about nationalities in our Republic. Most of them are Russian Tatars, while newcomers account for 5-6% of the population, which are the indigenous peoples of the Volga region. As many as 175 ethnicities live side by side in the Republic. These figures form 42 ethnic and cultural autonomies. It is important to ask a question here: what opportunities are there for realizing your needs in culture, and spiritual development, in preserving your native language? Education in the Republic is a major sphere. Apart from the official language which is taught at all schools, there are schools where children are taught Tatar. And we have 129 schools that have an ethnic and cultural component where small communities of Udmurts, Maris and Mordovians live. There are 25 branches at Sunday schools under the aegis of the Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan. If any group of people have a need to learn their native language, they can study there. The Republic is creating every condition for that,” she assured the audience.

Albina Khamitova, a mother of many children and head (owner) of the Eco Start LLC labor protection company, spoke about the opportunities of a modern woman. According to her, from time immemorial, the main role of a woman has been running the family and raising children. “But the world of today opens up additional possibilities as well. It’s great that Russia and my beloved Republic give women the opportunity to express themselves not only as keepers of the family hearth, but also as businesswomen,” she said.

Yelena Kalinina, Chairwoman of the St. Petersburg regional branch of the Women’s Union of Russia, shared her experience in involving women in economic activity and holding exchanges with other countries. The ability to negotiate is a necessary skill for developing cooperation, and the mission of the Women’s Union is to organize business missions and build dialogue.  “We have agreed to cooperate with the Sharq Ayoli women’s public fund of Uzbekistan. And we haven’t halted our cooperation with Latvia’s Association of Businesswomen. And cooperation with the Jordanian-Iraqi association is our latest achievement,” she said.

Karine Gevorgyan, a political scientist, orientalist, and lecturer at the Institute of Russian Political Culture, spoke about the importance of personal growth of women in any country as she used the example of Iran: “Until the 17th century, Iran developed rapidly. Later, it was decided to suggest that Iran had fallen asleep and that there was nothing to expect from it. Now the emphasis on traditional spiritual values forms the basis for the modernization of society to fit the times and the current era. The Supreme Leader of Iran implores girls to show personal growth, as he encourages them to do so. The country gives them every opportunity to receive higher education, provides support and assistance in starting a family,” she said.

Ayaulym Ayaganova, a member of the Board of TechnoWomen Central Asia, and co-founder/CEO of Acvee Finance, noticed a trend in present-day business – to build work on the principles of justice and honesty. “We need to have values to reach agreement. And all this runs in the family. Family values are what gives us stability," she emphasized.

Hoda Galal Yassa, President of Arab Women Investors Union, a board member at the 10th of Ramadan Investors Association and Chair of the International Cooperation Committee, believes that women must tell their families about their work. “Mothers must instill in their children an understanding of how our society is developing. Sometimes, we have to make sacrifices for the family and work. I sacrificed my time with friends and time off. And my family members, my children inspired me to develop, and now I inspire young mothers and their children to make effort and develop,” she said.
