At the 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2024," business and government representatives at the "Russia-Azerbaijan" round table discussed industrial and investment cooperation between the two countries, including the development of the "North-South" international transport corridor.

Russia’s Trade Representative in Azerbaijan Ruslan Mirsayapov moderated the discussion. The event was attended by Azerbaijani Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Alekperov, Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin, Deputy Executive Director of the AZPROMO Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency Zohrab Gadirov, Tatarstan Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Rodion Karpov, Azerbaijani Deputy Transport Minister Javid Gurbanov, Advisor to the General Director of RZD Logistics JSC and Director General of Eurasian Agrologistics Autonomous Nonprofit Organization Alevtina Kirillova, Managing Director for Business Development of IBA-MOSCOW Bank Svetlana Lunkova, Director for Business Process Support of Wildberries Alexander Popkov, Chairman of the Management Board of Azerbaijan’s Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA) Orkhan Mammadov, President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Platonov, Director General of JSC Himgrad Ayrat Gizzatullin.

"In January-March 2024, the trade turnover between our countries exceeded $890 million, the volume of exports to Russia in the first quarter of 2024 amounted to almost $229 million. The non-hydrocarbon sector accounted for more than 98% of our exports. Thus, Russia remains the leader in imports of Azerbaijani products of the non-oil sector," Azerbaijani Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Alekperov said.

"For Russia, Azerbaijan is one of the most important trade partners in the CIS. We see that our interaction, although it is very active, ahead of the curve, still has a great potential for growth. <…> Last year alone, Russian companies invested more than 50 billion roubles in Azerbaijan. And now more than 1,200 companies with Russian capital are registered in Azerbaijan. <...> In our opinion, the production of construction materials in Azerbaijan is exactly the niche that should be actively developed by Russian investors," Russia’s Trade Representative in Azerbaijan Ruslan Mirsayapov pointed out.

"The Azerbaijani side is considering the possibility of launching a container train on the Old Baku-Astrakhan route using the infrastructure of our terminal. The project is planned to be implemented by Azerbaijan Railways," Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin said.
