Award ceremony of the Yunus Akhmetizyanov International Young Chefs Tournament of Islamic Countries
Time and date: 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., May 17
On the sidelines of the 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2024, the Yunus Akhmetzyanov tournament of young chefs from Islamic countries was held. Chefs aged between 18 and 25 from 15 OIC member countries took part in the competition.
Each finalist was assigned a famous chef who consulted them how best to prepare a dish. Contestants were supposed to make a three-course meal: an appetizer, the main course and a dessert. A key condition was to use at least one local product associated with the culture of the country being presented.
The tournament is being held for the seventh time, while it took place at the Forum for the first time ever. A special feature of the competition was that every guest of the event could taste the dishes.
At the finals, the participants presented their dishes to 13 international judges. One of the organizers of the tournament, Director General of Skazka Cafe Mikhail Sharipov, explained that it was no coincidence that young chefs were chosen as they really need support, so it was decided to involve famous chefs as judges, not as participants. A new evaluation system was developed especially for the tournament, taking into account major requirements – that a presentation of the dish and it being associated with the culture of a nation mattered.
Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov noted how important it is to hold such tournaments: “We are holding a competition of young chefs in honor of our celebrity chef, a pioneer who revived this sphere, Yunus Akhmetzyanov <...> People in our large catering business today are true professionals, the people who should train our youths. I believe that they should definitely teach exactly the professionalism that you showed to us today.”
Each participant in the contest became the winner in a certain category, while the Grand Prix was awarded to chef Ouadidou Redouane from Morocco.
