We hope that Russian-Malaysian ties will be further developed. Tatarstan is ready to actively contribute to this,” Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized.
He reminded that 20 years ago in Kuala Lumpur the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia's intention to join the Organization of the Islamic Conference as an observer. Rustam Minnikhanov expressed hope that the meeting of the Group would become an important step in the development of further cooperation between Russia and the Islamic world.
Tatarstan maintains ties with a number of regions of Malaysia, in particular with the states of Johor and Sarawak. The volume of trade turnover, despite the increase, remains small - $61 mln. This year shows a one and a half times growth.
Rustam Minnikhanov approached to the Prime Minister of Malaysia with a proposal to hold one of the meetings of the intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between Malaysia and Russia in Kazan.
In turn, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, welcoming Rustam Minnikhanov, emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Russia and Malaysia.
“We are pleased with the development of our cooperation with Russia, and with the Republic of Tatarstan as one of its successful regions. This cooperation is strengthened not only within the BRICS framework, it is built on reliable bilateral relations,” Anwar Ibrahim emphasized.
