On 7 February, a panel session “Enhancing investment attractiveness of development projects through effective city-planning policies” was held within the framework of the International Architecture and Construction Forum “Kazanysh”.
The Event was moderated by Taliya Minullina, Chief Executive of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency. The Participants of the session were leading experts in the field of urban planning, renowned architects, as well as specialists in state planning, improvement, and modernisation of urban environment: Guillermo Penalosa (Canada/Colombia), Vicente Loureiro (Brazil), Urmat Karybaev (Kyrgyzstan), Oleg Grigoriev (Russia), and Arina Sudakova (Russia).
During the discussion, the Participants touched upon the key aspects of integrated development of territories impacting the investment attractiveness of cities. The speakers also talked about the role of transport infrastructure and urban planning policy in the successful implementation of development projects, considered the interests of private investors when planning territories, and presented examples of successful creative solutions in development.
Special attention was paid to the integration of modern technologies into urban planning policy for ensuring sustainable economic growth and improving the quality of life.
“We must stop building cities as if everyone was 30 years old,” Guillermo Penalosa said during his speech. “All infrastructure should be available to residents of different ages. If they lead active and exciting lives in our cities, then these areas will be attractive for investment.”
Taliya Minullina summarised during the session:
“The same site can have completely different capitalisation based on its location even within the same city. This is the most important factor for an investor who looks for a territory where they can “land” their projects. Tatarstan now is an example of a region with a safe and stable environment for investors. Our Republic is not in the textbooks on economic development yet but we will all do our best to make sure that it is featured there in the near future.”
The session became a platform for sharing experience, discussing the best global practices, as well as successful cases implemented in the Republic of Tatarstan. The Participants noted the importance of developing a comprehensive urban planning policy aimed at attracting investors and improving living conditions.
