The Meeting of Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary is an important dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation between Russia and the countries participating in the Forum. In the context of new geopolitical challenges, it is particularly important to ensure harmonization of approaches of the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the field of economic policy and to create additional incentives for deepening and diversifying cooperation in all areas of the trade and economic agenda. Within the framework of the meeting, the participants discussed the peculiarities of diplomacy and negotiations between the Islamic countries and Russia, as well as the areas of further cooperation.
The meeting was attended by 36 representatives of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Benin, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Gambia, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Kuwait, Mauritania, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Türkiye, the UAE, Uganda, and Yemen.

Tatarstan Rais (President) and Chairman of Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic world" Rustam Minnikhanov pointed to the importance of such meetings.

"For Russia, a multinational and multi-confessional state, cooperation with the Islamic world has been and remains one of the most important vectors of foreign policy. Russia and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation interact on the basis of balanced approaches to a number of issues of the modern world order, confirming by their example the possibility of conflict-free dialogue of civilizations in the formation of our polar world. The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the leading industrial and national development regions of the country. It is in the vanguard of interaction with Muslim companies and investors, a constant dialogue is maintained both at the official and business levels," he said.

According to the results of 2024, the Republic of Tatarstan has increased trade turnover with the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation by 87%. Trade with Egypt, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Turkey and a number of Central Asian states has increased significantly, and relations with partners in Asian and African countries are being strengthened.

Qatar's Ambassador to Russia Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani began his speech by congratulating Russian President Vladimir Putin on his inauguration and emphasized the strategic partnership between the two countries.
"We would like to congratulate Mr. Vladimir Putin on his re-election as Russian president, it was he who took the initiative for Russia to join the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). I would also like to convey the greetings of the Emir of Qatar [Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani]. There is a strategic partnership between our countries, and there is also close cooperation between the investors of our countries. We know that Tatarstan plays a special role in the development of Russian-Arab relations, and we work a lot with the Republic of Tatarstan," the ambassador said at the 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2024."

Turkish Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia Tanju Bilgiç spoke about the long-standing cooperation with Tatarstan.
"We have a goal to reach 100 million US dollars trade turnover between our countries. Last year it was 56 billion, Tatarstan plays a big role in this. More than 2.5 billion dollars have been invested by Turkish companies in Tatarstan, and there are large investments going from Tatarstan to Turkey. There are companies operating in special economic zones, especially in the field of glass production, Pegasus, Turkish Airlines, production of car parts," he explained.

Gambia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia Ebrima Seesay opined that the Forum serves as a bridge for rapprochement between Russia and Africa.
"I imagine that Russia can play a big role in the development of Africa in terms of trade development and areas related to the development and exploitation of mineral resources, agriculture and others <…>. My country is open and we invite Russian businessmen to explore all investment opportunities, especially in Gambia. We have a special agency for export promotion and investment attraction," the ambassador said.

The 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2024" is being held on May 14-19 in Kazan. This year's keynote is "Trust and Cooperation." The main goal of the forum is to strengthen trade and economic, scientific and technical, social and cultural ties between Russian regions and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as to promote the development of the Islamic financial system institutions in Russia.
