During the session, speakers discussed the role of traditional values in shaping future generations in a changing world, and also identified the attitudes and fears that drive or haunt young people when making important decisions in life. Experts also highlighted the role of modern technologies and intercultural aspects in the upbringing of children and youth using the example of state-run and international programs and projects in the field of culture, education and youth policy.
Dr. Salim M. Almalik, Director General of ICESCO, said that the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is an Islamic UNESCO. It has 53 member countries. “The main function of the organization is to work with people in education, culture, science, environmental protection, and tourism. “In today’s world, we are faced with the problem of artificial intelligence, which pushes our education in a different direction, but it is still important to preserve values despite changes in the education system. ISESCO's goal is to defend enlightenment and progress dedicated to education, science and culture across the Islamic world, as well as in Russia. Russia is an observer of our organization,” he said.
Culture Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Irada Ayupova noted that self-positioning comes from the family. “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2024” clearly reflects the unity of the community, precisely in terms of confessions and values. According to her, 91% of the population of our country consider themselves patriots, and, for most Russians, love for the Motherland begins with self-identification associated with the family or with the clan. “Nine-tenths of Russians are, to a certain degree, keen to know the history of their family. Genealogical research is a sphere that is developing heavily today. Knowing the genealogy or where you come from to a large extent determines your path. This vector must not be neglected. We have our own specifics, a multinational country, with more than 170 ethnicities living in the Republic alone. Families can be driven together by spiritual and moral values,” she explained
Minister for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan Rinat Sadykov said that Tatarstan has generated a large experience in building dialogue and working with various categories of youths, teenagers and children. “For us, a fundamental part of preserving cultural heritage is to preserve the native Tatar language. A lot has been done in this direction, but there is still a lot of work to be done, because, on the one hand, modern technologies interfere with the acquisition of the Tatar language, while on the other hand, they come in handy, but you need to be able to apply these technologies properly. The main thing for us is to engage directly with children and youth, in passing on our traditions and preserving the language,” she emphasized.
“Everything that should be there in a modern person must originate in childhood. In fact, that’s not so difficult, because a big family is actually a school. If, in organizing the educational process or an educational system, we apply the same rules and values that we use in the family, then there will be complete order and idyll. We are fully committed to this,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan Alsu Asadullina noted.
