The session participants shared their experience and best practices of interaction, discussed opportunities for expanding trade and economic cooperation, as well as for strengthening cultural ties between the peoples.

Speaking about the trade and economic dialogue between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, the moderator noted that it is constantly and progressively developing. "We see great interest on the part of the business community. This is confirmed by a very representative delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic, which came to Tatarstan to participate in the 15th anniversary forum "Russia. Islamic World." <...> At the end of last year we reached record figures of trade turnover, more than 3.5 billion dollars. In addition to trade turnover, of course, we want to develop industrial cooperation between our countries. We are currently working on a number of joint initiatives. In particular, the construction of a solar power plant by Unigreen Energy in the Issyk-Kul region is already underway. Rosatom State Corporation is also building a wind power plant there, near Issyk-Kul," Russia’s Trade Representative in Kyrgyzstan Ainur Samanov said at the beginning of the meeting.

The speakers noted good prospects for cooperation in the sphere of railway engineering. At present, the parties are working on the establishment in Kyrgyzstan of the production of rolling stock, railway infrastructure, and modernization of the production complex.

To date, more than 1,000 companies with Russian participation are registered in Kyrgyzstan. This is an absolute record among foreign companies, according to Ainur Samanov. "Several projects are already being implemented in the area of hydroelectric power plant construction with the participation of financial institutions and companies from Russia. Of course, an important role in this is played by the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, which is engaged in financing Russian-Kyrgyz industrial cooperation projects." The speaker also mentioned the Eurasian Development Bank, which in 2023 will finance two projects worth more than $90 million.

Kyrgyz Deputy Economy and Commerce Minister Nazarbek Malayev explained that one of the most important effective instruments of such an association between Russia and Kyrgyzstan is the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). "As you know, there is an agreement between our governments on technical assistance for the accession of our country to the EAEU. And under this agreement we were able to fully modernize our testing laboratories and checkpoints on the state border with third countries. <…> In addition, a single market for oil, oil products and gas are being formed within the EAEU. We have an agreement on the supply of oil and oil products." According to the speaker, to date Moscow and Bishkek are actively working to prepare the market of Kyrgyzstan for joint work and the establishment of joint ventures. " More than 200 joint ventures are already represented in the market, large projects are being implemented. And within the framework of this forum, yesterday we signed an agreement with the Wildberries company on the construction of a large logistics center in Kyrgyzstan. According to our calculations, this will be one of the largest projects to be implemented within the framework of cooperation with Russia," Nazarbek Malayev said.

Tatarstan’s Deputy Industry and Trade Minister German Lerner greeted all the guests of the forum and pointed to the record figures of this year: nearly 20,000 participants, more than 80 countries of the world, over 80 subjects of Russia are taking part in the forum in 2024. "We highly appreciate the friendly relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tatarstan. Kyrgyzstan is a promising partner of Tatarstan in the development of trade and economic cooperation, as evidenced by the growth of our joint foreign trade turnover: in 2023 it amounted to 170 million dollars, which is the highest indicator in the history of our cooperation," he said.

The speaker emphasized that since 2017 agreements between the governments of Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan have been in force, and in 2021 a plan of measures on trade and economic, scientific and technical, social and humanitarian cooperation for 2021-2023 was signed, which has already been implemented. "Such Tatarstan enterprises as KAMAZ actively cooperate with Kyrgyzstan in the field of supplies of automotive equipment and spare parts, JSC Tatneft - in supplies of diesel fuel, JSC Tatspirtprom - in supplies of beverages, EIDOS LLC - in supplies of high-tech medical simulators, Tampo Pipe Plant - in supplies of pipes and others. Besides, I would like to point out that our republic is an industrial republic. It is the industry that makes up more than 50% of our GDP. We are ready to cooperate in various fields. The main element of increasing the attractiveness of our region is the developed infrastructure. We are successfully operating industrial parks in each district," Tatarstan’s Deputy Industry and Trade Minister German Lerner said.

The 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2024" is being held on May 14-19 in Kazan. This year's keynote is "Trust and Cooperation." The main goal of the forum is to strengthen trade and economic, scientific and technical, social and cultural ties between Russian regions and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as to promote the development of the Islamic financial system institutions in Russia.
