The development of the prosthetic and orthopedic industry is particularly relevant in the current geopolitical situation, including in connection with the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin’s instruction on the development of the production of prostheses and their components. The market of the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation presents a huge potential for Russian manufacturers of the rehabilitation industry. To date, agreements have been reached on the establishment of a joint industrial park in the Arab Republic of Egypt to localize the production of Russian companies and promote products to the African continent; and cooperation with Russian manufacturers of prosthetic products is developing.

Aleksander Sokolov, Acting Director of the Department for the Development of industry of socially significant goods of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, spoke about the state policy of Russia for the development of the rehabilitation industry. The production sector of the rehabilitation industry in the Russian Federation shows growth every year. Since 2007, the government of the Russian Federation has approved a strategy for the development of this industry.

In 2022, the share of domestic manufacturers in the rehabilitation products market in Russia amounted to about 50%. A support and standardization of products mechanism which must comply with certain GOST (state standard) is being implemented. Counteraction to the circulation of illegal products is carried out (labeling of wheelchairs, orthopedic shoes, hearing aids, etc.). Activity to support the technology is being carried out and is becoming more systematic.

Eid El Taw, the Head of the Technical Committee, project manager for the development of the rehabilitation industry, spoke about a joint project within the industrial park in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The aim of the project is to create a fully integrated national project which will provide high quality products and excellent services to Egyptian and foreign citizens at a competitive cost and give people with disabilities a chance to become productive, independent and active participants in society.

Dr. Harianto Tri, the Head of the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Department of the largest multipurpose public hospital in Indonesia, described the medical field of prosthetics and rehabilitation facilities in Indonesia. He noted that Russian rehabilitation products may be in demand in Indonesia, and Russian companies need to present their products for further cooperation in this area.

Dmitry Nizamov, Export Director of METIZ Company, informed that his company is a leader in Russia in the development and production of components and materials for manufacturing of lower limb prostheses, and is also the exclusive distributor of prosthetic and orthopedic products of the well-known foreign brands. 90% of the production materials are of Russian origin. The production is located in Shchelkovo, and the facilities occupy 6 thousand square meters. Products are certified in the markets of Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

The company covers the needs of patients with activity from 1 to 4 levels. The wide range company's products include different adapters made of aluminum, steel and titanium. The latest development is an updated hydraulic knee module (moisture resistant) and a myoelectric hand. Products are exported to 40 countries around the world, including a number of Islamic countries.

Natalya Volkova, General Director of Orthomoda Company, spoke about the company, which since 2001 has been manufacturing orthopedic shoes and adaptive clothing in accordance with modern technology standards and fashion trends. Orthomoda produces annually about 220 thousand goods, and the number of their customers is 85 thousand in 40 Russian regions. The company exports its products to China, Kazakhstan, Belarus, the Baltic countries, Tajikistan. The company uses world-class innovative technologies, such as 3D foot scanning, digital technologies for design and production, an SRM system for customer management, and a mobile application for making shoes to order.

Nina Koroleva, Manager of the Madin Group of Companies, a Russian developer of medical equipment for physiotherapy and medical rehabilitation, presented a new development - the NeuroHelper system and the Exitus knee module. The company cooperates with such countries as Malaysia, Egypt, Algeria; it carries out negotiations with Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, and is ready to offer joint production under different options for cooperation.
